YAZZIE Alejandro Jay - (NA)

Marine Lance Cpl Yazzie was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. He died while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Alejandro, nicknamed "Poncho", was a 2004 graduate of Rock Point Community School in Rock Point, Arizona, where he was president of the school's rodeo club, played football and enjoyed bull riding. At the age of 6, he knew he wanted to join the Marines and is the 11th Navajo Nation service member killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Poncho was always physically and mentally strong but also kind and caring. For an example, as a young child, he was stung by a large bumblebee – he laughed, picked it up and let it go. It was this kind of demeanor that put everyone around him in a good mood. Poncho loved being with his wife, Kalandra, his family and grandmother. He became a mentor to young students – encouraging them to stay in school and finish college or vocational school. Among some of his favorite activities is target shooting, listening to country and heavy metal music and eating traditional foods made by his grandmother.

Il est devenu un mentor pour les jeunes étudiants - les encourageant à rester à l'école et à terminer leurs études collégiales ou professionnelles. Parmi ses activités préférées, citons le tir à la cible, l'écoute de musique country et de heavy metal et la consommation d'aliments traditionnels préparés par sa grand-mère.
